Arabian World Championships: Thee Desperado Shines!
Thee Desperado was once again a sire of influence at the Arabian horse’s world championships, the Salon du Cheval in Paris. An excerpt from an article published by the Pyramid Society reads:
Another sire recognized for his presence in Paris is Thee Desperado (The Minstril x AK Amiri Asmarr), owned by Judy Sirbasku, of Arabians Ltd., in Waco, Texas. Being the grand-sire to the 2009 Senior Male Champion, Royal Colours (True Colours x Xtreme Wonder [The Elixir x Lenoire Moniet by Thee Desperado]), and Reserve Champion, Al Lahab [Laheeb x The Vision HG by Thee Desperado], last year was really a special year for those of us who love this great stallion. In 2010, through his grand-get, Thee Desperado was not without representation. Although both his son True Colours (out of Daheda) and his grandson Royal Colours had sons competing, his Egyptian sired son, BJ Thee Mustafa made his appearance twice — most notably as the grand sire to Turchiya MPE, owned by Leandro De Aguilar. Turchiya MPE, not only placed as a Top Ten champion, she was also named Most Beautiful Head in her junior mare class. However, perhaps Thee Desperado’s most profound presence at this year’s Salon Du Cheval, could be as the grand-sire to the above mentioned, Jamilla Al Zobair, who was recently crowned Reserve Champion at the 2010 Nations Cup.

Arabians Ltd. Launches Embryo Transfer Program
It has been a great year for Arabians Ltd. farm and breeding manager Stephane Robillard, and for our Mare Care Division! We are thrilled to announce that our first season to offer embryo transfers on farm produced 13 pregnancies. Embryo transfer utilizes a surrogate mare to carry a fertilized egg to full term.
Last fall Stephane oversaw the construction of his Embryo Transfer lab. The first embryos he flushed were sent to Weatherford Equine Medical Center, a well-known embryo transfer facility in Weatherford, Texas. After studying with Dr. Justin Ritthaler there, Stephane began to use our own young mares as recipients. It was not long before Stephane had mastered this intricate process, which requires a combination of careful science and an expertise in the art of equine breeding. Stephane has developed both over a highly successful career as a breeding manager in Canada and at Arabians Ltd., and his wife Mellisa has become an integral part of the process. We are grateful to Stephane, Mellisa, and to the entire staff here who has supported this endeavor–we truly have the best staff in the business! Read more »

Thee Desperado Son Sold to Qatar
Arabians Ltd. is honored that Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa al Thani of Doha, Qatar has chosen a Thee Desperado son for his Al Shahania Stud! Ezz Al Shahania (Thee Desperado x *Abha Qalams) was born earlier this year and possesses a pedigree of champions–not only was his sire Unanimous Supreme Champion at Scottsdale, but his dam, *Abha Qalams, was Reserve Junior Champion Filly there!
In Memory: Legendary Sire The Minstril
Arabians Ltd. fondly remembers former herd sire The Minstril (Ruminaja Ali x *Bahila), who passed away peacefully this weekend at his retirement home, Paradise Arabians. Paradise did an outstanding job of caring for the 26-year-old stallion in his retirement, and he was loved by all who knew him there. His proud presence is already missed by his former groom Shawn Crews, Arabians Ltd. owner Judy Sirbasku, and The Minstril’s breeders and former owners David and Marion Gardner, who wish to thank Paradise owners Gary and Wanda Kenworthy for their kind, respectful treatment of the horse they all loved so well. His loss will be felt by many in the straight Egyptian and Arabian community at large, for his influence as a sire was international and cannot be overestimated.
